"Sam and I have worked together for several years now, and have recorded two EPs, half an album and many unreleased tracks. Sam has a great attitude towards recording; he is very open to new techniques and new ideas, whether it’s mic placement or effects pedals, he is basically unflappable, and he creates a welcoming environment in which to record; I have brought complete strangers to record with him, which can be nervewracking for everyone, and they have always been put at ease by his no-pressure working style. As time has gone on, we have worked together in live environments too, both with Sam behind the desk running live sound and with Sam in the back of the van as we crossed the UK on tour. He was an asset to the band whilst we were on the road, providing a level-headed perspective for the permanently drun… er, tired band members, and finding practical solutions to problems that we faced, whether musical or personal. Sam was indispensible when we were booking the tour, providing contacts and enthusiasm that helped us to get on the road. I can honestly say that if I had never started working with Sam, I wouldn’t have come half as far as I have with music, I wouldn’t have had so much opportunity to learn about, and experiment in, the crafts of recording and songwriting, and I would have far fewer stories to tell..."
